The creative community is divided. As of this year, some artists praise the “no AI” feature approach in the industry. Other artists embrace the possibilities that helpful AI tools could bring.
AI Revolution – Recent Facts
McKinsey and Company, founded in 1926, is a leading consulting firm that conducts global surveys. They feature research on what matters in business, economics, and management. AI as a topic is no exception.
A study done in May revealed that 65 percent of respondents report that their organizations are regularly using gen AI. The fast growth of the usage is even more shocking, since it is double the percentage from a previous survey, which was conducted just ten months before.
Even newer data, presented by Hubspot, emphasizes the reason of the high usage of AI – it is actively being incorporated into their existing business tools. Moreover, according to the respondents, the business landscape can benefit greatly from AI features: it can boost productivity and alleviate communication.
Why “No AI” Feature Might Attract More Users?
Despite AI’s global adoption, some users oppose it, wanting a possibility to not use AI functionalities that were integrated in by the creative tools.
One of the recent OpenAI announcements was about their development of a mechanism capable of generating highly realistic voice clones. This revelation was criticized with a public letter from over 200 music artists.
Billie Eilish, Stevie Wonder and other famous artists claim that irresponsible AI usage is a possible threat to artists, who dedicate their lives to the creation of music.
The message of the letter – to call out and warn tech companies, AI developers and digital music services to not steal artists’ voices and styles. They claim that by doing that, all those responsible could destroy the music ecosystem.
Procreate also goes public with a statement claiming they are hesitant about incorporating generative AI tech into its products. The creators state that even though it may seem that the company is at risk of being left behind, it doesn’t really matter, when it comes to AI’s influence on human creativity.
Are There Any “No AI” Feature Cases?
One of the top camera apps, used by iPhone users, Halide has introduced a new “no AI” feature called “Process Zero”. It removes all processing from the photo-taking process, offering images reminiscent of older digital cameras.
Of course, the processing and editing features are still available. The “Process Zero” one is a nice addition, when you want as much realness as possible in your photos. As the Verge notices, “many of these editing features are cool, but is the resulting file really even a photo?”
Final Word
While AI drives innovation, some industries resist its influence to protect creativity and originality. “No AI” feature implementation is a possibility to preserve artistic integrity but also leave room to choose AI features when needed.
